Emma's Year of Challenges!

My Story

I am not the fittest and have certainly never been 'sporty'!

I was always the one that 'forgot' their PE kit at school....

CHALLANGE ONE:

In April 2019 I started running. It was slow going. At first, I couldn't run for more than 60 seconds without getting out of breath and needing to stop. But I kept going and proved to myself what my body is capable of. I have spent the past months building on this and am now running 3 miles three times a week.

Not being content with this I have now set myself the challenge to complete a half marathon in February. This will be the longest distance I have EVER run…..

I am committed to a 10-week training programme and am currently running 4 times a week working on slowly building my distance... This Sunday (5/1/19) I ran for a full 6 miles. I don’t profess to be the fastest, but I am determined to run the entire 13 miles.

What would all this be without also raising money for an amazing cause? I am raising money for World Bicycle Relief. As some of you know I work for WBR - this however is a personal challenge for me, raising money for a cause, in my own time, that I truly believe in.

About World Bicycle Relief:

In many rural areas across the globe children are denied access to basic needs due to the barrier of distance. World Bicycle Relief’s mission is to provide sustainable, appropriate bicycles to mobilise and empower individuals and communities so they can travel to schools, clinics and markets.

In rural Africa, women have distance and systemic gender inequality limiting their opportunities. This is why 70% of Buffalo Bikes are distributed to female students.

The Buffalo Bike empowers girls and young women. It gives them freedom, independence and choice, empowering them with the tools to change their lives. It is giving girls the skills and confidence to address some of the challenges they face. With bicycles, it’s easier for girls to get to school, stay in school, and graduate - improving their economic prospects for the rest of their lives.

And the cost of a life-changing Buffalo Bike? Just £120 is all it takes to give a child access to an education. Access that empowers them to change their world.

Thank you so much for supporting me on this journey!
